CHATTANOOGA NONPROFIT DRAWS INTERNATIONAL YOUTH EDUCATORS
TO THE SCENIC CITY
Why Know hosts more than 30 educators at intensive curriculum training conference
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 25, 2007) – Today Why Know will conclude a four day training conference for educators that use the Chattanooga-based organization’s youth development model in their communities.
“This week we have been able to equip more than 30 individuals to establish and sustain programs in their community that will offer ongoing knowledge and support to teens, said Lesley Scearce, executive director of Why Know. “The majority of our participants came from within the US, but one young woman traveled from the Ukraine to attend the training.”
The conference trained participants to effectively teach lessons developed for sixth through twelfth grade students, establish peer support and mentoring groups and partner with their local school system. It also offered sessions on development and fundraising.
Currently, organizations in 40 states and 11 countries use Why Know’s curriculum to teach abstinence and youth development education. Organizations can purchase curriculums for grades six through twelve on the Why Know Web site or by calling 423-899-9188. In March 2007, Why Know received nationwide recognition for the process used to evaluate the effectiveness of its program, and was selected as a “best practice” in ways to evaluate youth programs in the state of Georgia.
