Why Know encourages parents to talk to teen about relationships and
sexual activity during Let’s Talk Month
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2007) – Studies shows parents play the biggest role in a teenager's decision to abstain from sex before marriage. In fact, teens say their sexual decision making is more influenced by their parents than any other source including friends, media and teachers.
“One of the most common questions parents ask us is how to talk to their teen about sex,” said Starlet Speakman, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Why Know Abstinence Education Programs. “In celebration of Let’s Talk Month, Why Know has created Let’s Talk boxes to help open the lines of communication between parents and teens.”
During October, Why Know will distribute the Let’s Talk Boxes to Chattanooga families for free. Each box contains 100 questions that families can use to initiate conversation. Boxes will be available for pick up at a variety of locations throughout Chattanooga. For a list of locations visit Why Know’s Web site at www.whyknow.org or call 423-899-9188.
